Buhari had given clearance for the suspension to be lifted, according to Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency.

According to Abdullahi's statement, "Twitter has agreed to act with a respectful acknowledgement of Nigerian laws and the national culture and history on which such legislation has been built..."

The corporation said it would collaborate with the federal government and the rest of the sector "to produce a Code of Conduct that is consistent with global best practices and applicable in practically all developed countries."According to Abdullahi, who also headed a joint technical committee of Nigerian and Twitter officials, Twitter agreed to appoint a country representative to engage with Nigerian authorities and comply with local tax laws.

"As a result, the (federal government) lifts the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria as of January 13, 2022, at midnight."
